Steel door sections and steel track are marginally larger when hot, so the running clearance available at seven in the morning is not the clearance available in the late afternoon, and a door that is already tracking slightly out of true, or running on a rail whose hangers have moved in dried timber, will bind only at the hot end of the day. It presents as an opener that strains, reverses on obstruction detection or stops short — and it very often passes a test cycle in the cool of a morning appointment. The fix is almost never the opener. It is track geometry, hanger fixings and clearance set with the seasonal swing accounted for rather than to the temperature that happened to be in the garage on the day.
