Opener faults split cleanly into two groups: the door will not move at all, or the door moves and then changes its mind. The second group is nearly always sensors, and it is nearly always cheaper to fix than people expect.

Second, alignment alone may not cure it, because the problem is not where the eye is pointing but what is landing on it. The durable fixes are hooding or shading the affected eye so direct sun cannot reach the lens, repositioning the brackets so the receiver looks away from the source, or simply swapping which side the receiver sits on so that the transmitter takes the sun instead. A transmitter does not care about being dazzled.
None of which is to say that every reversing door here is a sun problem. Plenty are not, and the rest of the list gets worked through in order: dust filmed onto a lens, an eye shifted by something set down against its bracket, a low-voltage run with an intermittent break in it, a travel limit that has crept over the years, or the door itself binding somewhere and tripping the obstruction logic. When the motor runs but nothing happens
